Set up API keys in your Anchorage Digital account

Last updated: May 1, 2025

PREREQUISITES TO API KEY SETUP: The following steps must be completed prior to integrating your Anchorage Digital account with Liquifi:

  1. You must have an account set up with Anchorage Digital.

  2. You must have at least one trusted destination registered in your Anchorage Digital account (required to create the External Transfers API key)

  3. You must have sufficient team members on standby to meet your Anchorage Digital quorum for account changes.

  4. The network for your token must be supported on Anchorage Digital.

FINAL API TESTING REQUIREMENTS: While not required for API key setup, the two following conditions will need to be met before we can verify the API keys are functioning correctly and release your account to you:

  • The token/asset you are planning to distribute via Liquifi must be supported by Anchorage Digital.

  • You'll need to have >0 tokens in the vault wallet address you'll be setting up with your Liquifi account for the Liquifi team to complete testing.

Standard processing times for operations in Anchorage Digital accounts is 15-30 minutes per operation. In total, you'll need to complete 5-6 operations (depending on if you need to create a new vault) in your Anchorage Digital account as part of your API key setup.

Step 1: Create a vault in Anchorage Digital for use with your Liquifi account (or use an existing vault)

If you plan to use an existing vault, you can skip to the following section, Step 2: Share your Anchorage Digital vault ID with Liquifi.

If you plan to create a new vault for use with Liquifi, complete the following two steps:

  1. Click on Create new vault in the Anchorage Digital mobile app.

  2. Complete the remaining steps in the mobile app to complete the vault creation process and submit for quorum approval. Note that you will need to meet the quorum threshold defined in your Anchorage Digital account settings to finish creating the vault.

Visit here for Anchorage Digital's documentation on creating a vault. You may need to request a password from Anchorage Digital directly in order to view their documentation.

Step 2: Record your Anchorage Digital vault ID and other relevant information with Liquifi

Once the vault is created and approved by your quorum, we strongly advise creating a secure note (such as via 1Password) and adding the following information your Anchorage Digital account (you'll be sending the secure note to your onboarding manager once you complete all required setup):

  1. Vault ID for the vault that will be used for Liquifi token transfers (accessible here once logged in to Anchorage Digital)

  2. Correct asset’s wallet address (accessible here once logged in to Anchorage Digital)

  3. Asset code for the token you'll be distributing as it is noted in Anchorage. As an example, the asset code for the wallet in the following screenshot is ETH_BASE.

Step 3: Create Trusted Destinations in your Anchorage Digital account with your External Stakeholder Addresses

  1. Collect wallet addresses from your stakeholders (via Liquifi or manually).

  2. Set up your stakeholder wallet addresses as trusted destinations in Anchorage Digital using their bulk import template from your Trusted destinations settings page.

    • If you've collected wallet addresses via Liquifi, you can easily export the list of wallet addresses from your stakeholders page.

  1. Complete Anchorage Digital's security approval process for your stakeholder wallet addresses to become trusted destinations.

Step 4: Generate API keys from Anchorage Digital for your Liquifi account

You'll need to create two API keys within your Anchorage Digital account that will be used by your Liquifi account to request token transfers. Each of the two API keys serves a specific action on Liquifi and will have its own respective Permission Group, including:

  1. External Transfers API Key

  2. Internal Transfers API Key

Generate your External Transfers API key

What it’s used for: An External Transfers API key is used when assets are moved from Anchorage Digital to an external address outside of Anchorage Digital’s ecosystem.

Quorum is required for API key creation. Please make sure you have the sufficient number of users from your Anchorage Digital account on standby for quorum when creating API keys.

A. Create an External Transfers (Liquifi) API Permission Group

Before proceeding, please request a public key from your Liquifi onboarding manager. You will not be able to proceed until you receive a public key from Liquifi. For more information on public keys, see Anchorage Digital's documentation.

  1. Under API Permission Groups, click the Create new group button to create

  2. Name the permission group as External Transfers (Liquifi)

  3. Set the following permissions:

    1. Global permissions

      1. None

    2. Vault permissions for your specific vault

      1. Read

      2. Transfer funds

    3. Configurations

      1. Transfers outside of Anchorage Digital

    4. Trusted destinations

      1. Add all stakeholder addresses that you added in Step 3 of this guide as Trusted destinations for the API key.

    5. Comment (optional)

      1. Allows transfers via Liquifi to trusted destinations outside of Anchorage Digital

  4. Endorse the permission group creation request on the iOS app.

    1. Please note that you will need to wait until the External Transfers API Permission Group has been successfully created before proceeding. You will not be able to create an API key for the group until the group is successfully created. Attempting to create multiple permission groups will cause an error in your Anchorage Digital account.

B. Create an External Transfers (Liquifi) API Key

  1. Navigate to Create API Key

  2. Name API Key as Key for External Transfers (Liquifi)

  3. Set permission group as External Transfers (Liquifi)

  4. Add the appropriate contact email on your team.

  5. Paste the public key requested from Liquifi in step 1 into the Add public key field.

  6. Add a note to the comments as For external transfers via Liquifi

  7. Select Endorse to create key in the Anchorage Digital dashboard.

  8. Endorse the API Key creation request on the iOS app.

  9. Once created, add the API key to the secure note you created in the section above - Step 2: Share your Anchorage Digital vault ID with Liquifi and reference it as your External Transfers API key.

Generate your Internal Transfers API key

What it’s used for: An Internal Transfers API key is used when assets are moved between Anchorage Digital vaults.

Quorum is required for API key creation. Please make sure you have the sufficient number of users from your Anchorage Digital account on standby for quorum when creating API keys.

    1. Vault ID

    2. Corresponding wallet address within the vault ID noted

    3. Your token's asset code as it listed in Anchorage Digital

    4. External Transfers API key

    5. Internal Transfers API key

Once quorum is met for your API key creations, they will typically be in Anchorage Digital Review for 5-10 minutes. Once they are complete, they'll be ready to integrate with your Liquifi account.

Step 5: Set up 2x read-only user profiles for Liquifi to confirm setup

To confirm setup and troubleshoot any issues, please set up 2x read-only user profiles in your Anchorage account for Liquifi's operations and engineering teams.

  1. On your Anchorage Digital iOS app, navigate to your settings.

  2. Select Team

  3. Add a new user

  4. Select User already has the app

  5. Take a screenshot of the QR code and share it via direct message with your onboarding manager.

  6. Complete these steps twice and share a total of 2x QR codes with your onboarding manager.

Step 6: Set up your token grants in Liquifi

Step 7: Complete AML questionnaires for all stakeholders in Liquifi

  • Prior to paying out tokens to your stakeholders, you must complete the AML questionnaire for each stakeholder from the stakeholder page.

  • This is a requirement for all Liquifi accounts that use Anchorage Digital as their custodian.

Step 8: Pay out tokens

  • When a stakeholder's tokens vest/unlock, pay out their tokens to them using your Liquifi payouts page. Once you click Pay via custody, Liquifi will communicate with Anchorage Digital via API key to transfer the vested/unlocked tokens to your stakeholder.

Ongoing maintenance for each additional stakeholder: For every new stakeholder you add to your Liquifi account, you will need to also complete the following steps:

- In Liquifi, complete their AML questionnaire in Liquifi

- In Anchorage Digital, add their wallet address as a trusted destination using the instructions in step 3 of this guide

- In Anchorage Digital, update your External Transfers (Liquifi) Permission Group to include every additional wallet address as a trusted destination for the Permission Group.
